Matthias Bergmann is currently working with Conservation International in Alotau, Papua New Guinea. He is a Fellow with the Robert-Bosch-Foundations Postgraduate Program in International Affairs. His work focuses on marine protection and the use of marine resources.
Matthias Bergmann completed his law degree in Münster, Germany, focusing on international environmental law and policy. While seeking his law degree he was awarded a scholarship from the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation. In his studies he concentrated on conflict resolution and mediation as well as resource management. He has acquired a Master of Laws in the field of International Environmental Law in Auckland, New Zealand and was admitted to the bar in 2009. In the recent years he has been working as an advisor to the German Permanent Mission to the United Nations and as a legal clerk for Ecologic, an environmental policy research organization based in Berlin.
