Mark Jariabka has been involved with Islands First in various capacities since it was established in 2007 before assuming the position of Executive Director. Mark is also affiliated with Ecologic Institute, an environmental policy research organization based in Berlin. His work with Ecologic Institute focuses on climate change policy, especially with regard to the Arctic. He also works on issues related to energy, water, and indigenous rights.

Mark Jariabka received a law degree from New York University School of Law, where his focus was environmental and human rights law. While earning his J.D., Mark worked with Natural Resources Defense Council on the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, as well as with Human Rights Watch and the European Roma Rights Center. More recently, Mark practiced health care law at Tucson Medical Center, a nonprofit health care provider in Arizona, and then later worked at the law firm of Vinson & Elkins LLP in New York in the finance and the mergers and acquisitions departments.

In addition to a law degree, Mark has a Bachelors of Health Science from the University of Arizona, where he studied biology and chemistry.
