About the Internship Program
Islands First is seeking intelligent, well-organized, and diligent individuals with an interest in international environmental policy-making to participate in our internship program. Interns will work on various issues, including environmental governance, climate change, and/or oceans policy. Internships are based in New York, New York and are unpaid. Applicants should have their own sources of funding for travel and living expenses during the duration of their time in the internship program. Interns will be expected to work a minimum of 15 hours per week for a term of at least three months.
Primary Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the intern may include:
- Conducting background research on issues related to of environmental governance, climate change, and oceans policy.
- Collaborating with Legal and Policy Advisers staffed in UN Missions on various projects.
- Maintaining the calendar of United Nations events.
- Reviewing and commenting on statements, policy papers, and resolutions.
- Performing various administrative activities when necessary.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience:
- Bachelors degree or current university student.
- Interest in the issues of environmental governance, climate change and oceans policy.
- Spoken and written fluency in English.
- Intelligent, hard-working and well-organized.
- Independent and able to work well on solo projects.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Experience working for an international organization, NGO, or governmental institution a plus, but not required.
